Rainbow Day Nursery
Inspiring Daycare for Enquiring Minds

Children can attend nursery with most everyday childhood illness however if he or she is unwell that child must remain at home, parents will be given a copy of sickness policy on admission.

If a child becomes ill during the day, he/she will be taken to a quiet area and made comfortable while the parent/guardian is contacted and able to collect their child.

* A more comprehensive list of our sickness policy is available on request.

Children who are being disruptive or using unacceptable behaviour will be calmed down by a member of staff and it will be made clear that it is the mode of behaviour that the adult finds unacceptable and not the child her/himself.

Physical intervention by an adult will only be made in an emergency, to prevent injury to the child, other children or an adult, or serious damage to property. We regularly give praise for good behaviour and reward this with stickers.

This day care facility works in conjunction with the guidelines of Northumberland County Council and if there are concerns about any child that cannot be adequately explained by parent, we will make a referral to the local Children's Services department.

If your child has sustained any injuries, it is necessary for you to share this information with staff on arrival.

We will consult and inform parents, where possible. However, our responsibility to the child is paramount and will always be our first concern.

We will deal with any information that is shared with the staff in confidence. We will only pass information to the Children's Services when this is considered to be in the best interest of the child.

We wish to ensure that no child attending our nursery will be disadvantaged or discriminated against during their time spent with us. We make all our staff aware of the need for equal opportunity policies and endeavour to implement them at all time. Children are welcomed into our care, regardless of gender, race, culture, religious belief, ethnic origin or disability.

We wish to ensure that no child in our care is discriminated against because of a special need. We make all our staff aware of this issue. We endeavour to provide positive role models of able-bodied and disabled adults and children in the pursuance of non-stereotypical tasks and activities through the use of toys, books, stories and wall friezes. Our aim is to provide an environment where every child can experience the full range of activities and learning opportunities on offer.
Fees are payable four weekly in advance. All fees are non-returnable. We make no charge for nursery holidays.

We require a clear four weeks notice to vacate a place, or fees paid in lieu. Absence due to sickness or holidays must be paid for.

We follow the EYFS framework which is a national document however not a curriculum, the document enables us to focus on each child as an individual and we cover each of the six areas:

We encourage full, rich relationships with adults and peers. We promote respect and values for others and their property, including other cultures and religious beliefs. Skills and attitudes in this area are vital to all other areas of learning.

We promote the development of; coordination, control, manipulation and movement. We give children a safe area, space and equipment, both indoors and out, to pursue physical activities and skills, promoting achievement and confidence in their own ability. They are able to feel the positive benefits of being healthy and active.

We promote communication, speaking and listening, working towards clear speech and understanding between peers and between children and adults, both one to one and in small groups. We provide opportunities for role-play as well as opportunities to experience the written language by using books, songs and rhymes.

We encourage and promote; basic number, number operations and counting, using and applying mathematical language and practical problem solving. We provide activities and experiences along with games and books to encourage the child to use correct mathematical language when experiencing concepts such as; colour, number and shape.

We encourage the child to make sense of the world around them, indoors and out. We provide opportunities and activities to stimulate the child's curiosities. We promote exploration, observation, problem solving and discussion.

We provide a safe and stimulating environment along with a variety of materials and techniques, where the child can experience; art, music, dance and role-play, during which the child can explore their own ideas and respond by using their senses.

All areas have its own Team Leader and each area operates a Key Worker system.

Your child will be allocated and introduced to their Key Worker on induction, it will be their responsibility to ensure personal attention to the needs and development of that child and its family.

We feel each child has the right to develop a caring, personal relationship with their Key Worker .

It will offer your child consistency, support and security from an adult who really knows them as an individual.

Parents/carers are the first educators of their young children. The aim of the nursery is to support parents/carers in their essential role and work together as a team to care and educate each individual child.

We will keep you informed of your childs progress and achievements and also discuss our worries or concerns about your child in a sensitive and supportive way.

The idea is to involve the family in nursery life.

We operate and strive at all times to provide a Healthy Setting for children in our care. We believe at Rainbow Day Nursery that the key to childrens healthy development lies in the great outdoors. All children have the opportunity and are encouraged to explore the outdoors in all weathers, as long as they are suitably dressed.

Outdoor play and physical activities are put into the daily planning and will be actively encouraged in all three nursery areas. We regularly take the children on walks and outings within the local area to enable them to explore the wider outdoor environment.

We encourage and believe that children should be allowed to get dirty and muddy and ask parents to dress children appropriately and provide spare clothes.

A full copy of the nurseries policies and procedures is available at each entrance.
